    Visitors & Travel Updates

Botswana – Visa Requirement Now Mandatory

From 14 October 2025 (15:00 BST), Botswana nationals must apply for a Visit Visa before travel.
Those who booked flights before this date may still travel without a visa until 25 November 2025 (15:00 GMT).
Botswana is also removed from the ETA-eligible list, and a Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV) is required for transit.

Palestine – Visa National List Addition

Following the UK’s recognition of the State of Palestine, Palestinian citizens must now apply for a Visit Visa and hold a DATV for airside transit.

German School Groups – Travel Simplified

School groups of five or more students aged 19 or under from recognised German institutions can visit the UK without a visa or ETA.
EU/EEA/Swiss students in those groups may travel using their national ID cards instead of passports.

    English Language and Work Routes

B2 English Requirement for Key Work Visas

Starting 8 January 2026, the required English proficiency for the Skilled Worker, High Potential Individual (HPI), and Scale-up routes rises from B1 to B2 CEFR level.
Applicants already granted at B1 can extend in the same route without retaking a test.
Tip: Plan IELTS/OET retakes early to meet the new threshold.

High Potential Individual (HPI) Route Expansion

The list of eligible global universities doubles, but there is now a cap of 8,000 applications per year.
Effective 4 November 2025. Apply early each year to avoid missing the quota.

Graduate Route Visa 2027 Changes (Stay Back / PSW )

From 1 January 2027, graduates from UK Bachelor’s or Master’s programmes will get 18 months of stay (instead of 2 years).
PhD graduates continue to receive 3 years.

This update means international students will have a shorter window to secure employment or switch to another visa category such as Skilled Worker or Innovator Founder.

    Student Switching to Innovator Founder

From 25 November 2025, students who complete their degree can switch directly to the Innovator Founder route, allowing them to start a business in the UK.
This replaces the older Start-up route. Applicants must meet innovation, viability, and scalability criteria approved by endorsing bodies.

Family & Private Life – “Part Suitability”

The Home Office has replaced Part 9 (Grounds for Refusal) with a new, clearer section called Part Suitability.
This unifies suitability tests across Family and Private Life routes. Overstay exceptions (previously paragraph 39E) are moved here.
Changes take effect 11 November 2025.

    Seasonal Worker and Ukraine Schemes

    • Seasonal Worker: Now limited to six months of work in any rolling 10-month period (previously 12).
    • Ukraine Permission Extension: Aligns children’s permission with parents or legal guardians; adds new safeguarding rules.

  • UK Skilled Worker Visa 2025: New Salary Threshold and TFL Staff Impact

    Published on: October 2025
Category: UK Visa News & Policy Updates
    Author: Velynt Global Editorial Desk

The UK Skilled Worker Visa 2025 update has introduced significant changes that affect thousands of international professionals working across the country.
From 22 July 2025, the minimum salary requirement for sponsorship increased to £41,700 per year, while several transport-related roles were removed from the official Skilled Occupations List.

These updates have placed many Transport for London (TfL) employees and graduate visa holders in a state of uncertainty about their immigration status.
At Velynt Global, we explain what these changes mean, who is most affected, and how to plan your next step with clarity and confidence.

Overview of the 2025 Skilled Worker Visa Changes

In July 2025, the UK government announced a new set of immigration reforms aimed at reducing what it calls “dependence on lower-skilled international recruitment.”
The most critical change is the salary threshold increase for the Skilled Worker route.

    Key updates include:

    • Minimum annual salary: £41,700 (up from £26,200)
    • Revised occupation list: removal of several transport and customer service roles
    • Effective date: 22 July 2025 for all new sponsorship applications

These reforms were introduced through the UK Immigration White Paper 2025, affecting all new Skilled Worker Visa applicants. Current visa holders will need to meet the new rules when changing employers or extending their stay.

Why the New Salary Threshold Matters

The revised salary threshold has created immediate challenges for many professionals who entered the UK under earlier, lower limits.

    For instance:

    • TfL graduate trainees earn approximately £31,000
    • Station staff typically earn between £35,300 and £41,800

This means that hundreds of TfL employees no longer qualify for Skilled Worker sponsorship, putting their right to work and remain in the UK at risk.

Impact on Transport for London and Other Workers

Reports from BBC London and the Local Democracy Reporting Service estimate that as many as 300 Transport for London employees could lose eligibility to stay in the UK under the new rules.

Mayor Sadiq Khan criticised the changes during the London Assembly meeting on 9 October, saying they had left TfL staff “in limbo.”
He argued that workers who have invested time and money in the UK now face unfair uncertainty.

Union leaders have echoed this concern.
The TSSA described the situation as “a complete betrayal of the promise they were given.”
The RMT added that essential front-line transport workers face “needless uncertainty” despite their vital role in keeping London moving.

TfL has stated that it is supporting affected staff by identifying other visa routes available to them.

Government’s Justification for the Policy Shift

The Home Office has defended the salary increase and occupation list revisions as necessary steps to restore balance to the immigration system.
According to the department, these changes are designed to:

    • Encourage employers to prioritise local hiring
    • Ensure visa sponsorship applies to genuinely skilled and well-paid roles
    • Reduce pressure on domestic job markets

However, critics argue that the new threshold is unrealistic for many essential roles, particularly in public services and transport, and risks losing valuable staff during a period of workforce shortages.

Alternate Visa Routes Available in 2025

Professionals who no longer qualify under the Skilled Worker category still have several legitimate visa pathways to remain in the UK.

    Graduate Route Visa
Allows international students to stay for two years (three for PhD holders) to work or gain experience without sponsorship.

    Health and Care Worker Visa
For medical and care professionals employed by NHS or eligible providers, offering a lower salary requirement.

    High Potential Individual Visa
Open to graduates from top global universities, enabling work in the UK without sponsorship.

    Global Talent Visa
Designed for leaders or potential leaders in academia, research, digital technology, or the arts.

    Youth Mobility Scheme
Permits eligible young professionals from select countries to live and work in the UK for up to two years.

If you are unsure which route suits your profile, Velynt Global can assess your options and guide you through a safer migration plan.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the new salary threshold for a UK Skilled Worker Visa in 2025?
The new threshold is £41,700 per year for all new applicants.

Do these changes affect current visa holders?
Current visa holders are unaffected until renewal or job change. Extensions or new sponsorships will require compliance with the new salary criteria.

Which roles were removed from the Skilled Occupations List?
Several transport and customer service roles, including certain positions within TfL, have been delisted. Applicants must verify their job code before applying.

Can Graduate Visa holders switch to Skilled Worker Visas?
Yes, but only if their job remains eligible and the salary meets or exceeds £41,700.

What can I do if my current salary is below the new threshold?
You may qualify for other visas such as the Graduate, Health and Care, or Global Talent routes. A detailed eligibility check is recommended before your current visa expires.

  • France Expands Education Opportunities for Indians: 30,000 Student Target & New Online Visa System

    Published on: September 2025

Futuristic digital poster promoting France as a study destination for Indian students. Design features a glowing outline of a student reading a book with the Eiffel Tower emerging from its pages. Footer includes Velynt Global contact details: www.velyntglobal.com

France is strengthening its ties with India in education and mobility. With an ambitious plan to host 30,000 Indian students by 2030, the country is not only widening opportunities but also simplifying its visa procedures through a new mandatory online appointment system.

    France’s 30,000 Indian Student Target

France has set out to make itself a top study-abroad destination for Indian students. The initiative includes:

    • “Classes Internationales”: A one-year preparatory program combining French language training and subject-based courses.
    • Scholarship expansion: Increased financial aid to help Indian students pursue higher education.
    • Career pathways: Over 800 French companies already operate in India, providing career prospects for graduates in both countries.

This is part of France’s long-term strategy to boost cultural and educational exchanges, ensuring Indian students have the support they need to succeed academically and professionally.

    New Online Visa Appointment System

To facilitate this growth, France has introduced a digital visa appointment platform. From now on, all applicants—students, workers, or visitors—must book their appointments online.

    Key benefits for applicants:

    • Faster and more transparent scheduling
    • Reduced dependency on third-party agents
    • Accessible nationwide for all categories of visas

This digital shift ensures that students applying to French universities experience a smoother, more secure application process.

Why This Matters for Indian Students

    • More scholarships and academic opportunities
    • Simpler visa access through the online system
    • Career growth in global companies operating in India and France

France is clearly positioning itself as a welcoming, high-quality destination for Indian students. The combined effect of expanded educational opportunities and simplified visa rules makes this the right time for Indian students to consider France for their higher education journey.

Got Your CAS? Your UK Study Journey is Just One Step Away

Once you receive your CAS, here’s what needs to be done to secure your visa:

    • Check your earliest application date (usually up to six months before your course start date)
    • Prepare your financial proof — tuition fee balance plus 9 months of living costs
    • Arrange your TB test and English language proof (if applicable)
    • Create your UKVI account and complete the online visa application form
    • Pay the visa application fee and Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)
    • Book your VFS appointment and complete biometrics

    • Continuous follow-up until your visa decision is issued

Common Mistakes That Cause Visa Refusals

Avoid these frequent errors to protect your UK study plans:

    • Using the wrong bank statement format or incomplete details
    • Miscalculating living costs based on your study location
    • Uploading blurry or incomplete documents
    • Forgetting to pay the IHS before submitting the application
    • Missing your biometric appointment slot

Why Is Sri Lanka Offering Free Visas?

The Sri Lankan government approved this policy as part of a broader effort to recover post-pandemic tourism and stabilize its economy.

Although it may lose $66 million USD annually in visa fee income, it expects greater hotel occupancy, local spending, and flight bookings to bring in more than double that.

As stated by Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, the strategy is clear:

“We’ve stabilised the economy, and through policy changes in tourism, we aim to ensure steady growth in arrivals.”

  • UK Passport to Europe: New Schengen Rules 2025 Explained

    Published August 2025

uk passport schengen rules 2025, ETIAS permit for UK citizens, biometric checks for schengen entry, new europe travel regulations 2025

If you hold a UK passport and are planning a trip to Europe, understanding the latest Schengen Area travel rules in 2025 is crucial. Post-Brexit regulations have changed how long you can stay, what documents you need, and what to expect at border control. This guide breaks it down — including upcoming changes like ETIAS and the Entry/Exit System — so your Europe plans stay smooth and stress-free.

What Is the Schengen Area in 2025?

As of July 2025, the Schengen Area includes 29 countries, enabling border-free travel across most of Europe. These include EU nations like France, Italy, Germany, and also non-EU countries like Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland.

    Important:

    • Ireland and Cyprus are not part of Schengen.
    • Microstates like Monaco, San Marino, and Andorra are not formal members but have open borders.

Passport Validity Rules for UK Citizens

Post-Brexit, your passport must meet two critical conditions:

    • Issued within the last 10 years on your arrival date
    • Valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from Schengen

For example: If you plan to leave the EU on March 1, 2026, your passport must be valid until at least June 1, 2026.

90-Day Visa-Free Travel Rule – How It Works

UK citizens can stay in the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, visa-free.

    Allowed reasons:

    • Tourism
    • Business trips
    • Family/friend visits
    • Medical treatment
    • Short courses or workshops

    Key rule:
The 90 days apply to the entire region, not per country. So, 30 days in Spain + 60 in France = 90 days used.

Staying longer? You’ll need a national visa for that specific country.

    Entry Requirements & Documents

To avoid any surprises at border control, UK travellers may be asked for:

    • Proof of accommodation (hotel or Airbnb bookings)
    • Return or onward travel ticket
    • Sufficient funds (bank statements or credit card)
    • Travel insurance covering the full stay
    • Invitation letter (for business or family visits)

👉 Keep physical and digital copies ready — especially during spot checks or airport transitions.

    Travel with Children or Minors

Each child must have their own passport. If traveling without both parents, you may need a:

    • Consent letter from the other parent
    • Birth certificate
    • Supporting documents if visa is needed

🔎 Always check specific country requirements.

    Denied Entry? Know Your Rights

If denied entry, you can appeal the decision, but this won’t guarantee immediate access. You must contact the consulate or embassy of the country for next steps.

Tip: Avoid denial by double-checking all entry rules before departure.

What Is ETIAS & EES? Upcoming Changes for UK Citizens

From 2026, the EU will introduce:

    • ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System)
      • Online pre-clearance form (like the US ESTA)
      • €20 application fee
      • Valid for 3 years
    • EES (Entry/Exit System) – starting in late 2025
      • Biometric checks (fingerprints, facial scan)
      • Tracks overstays and improves border security

UK travellers must prepare for this new digital border era.

    Final Travel Tips

    • Renew passports early if nearing expiry
    • Check embassy pages for country-specific changes
    • Book flights and insurance early to avoid last-minute disruptions
    • Use a travel folder (physical or digital) with all key documents

    FAQ

Q1: Can I re-enter the Schengen Area after 90 days if I visit the UK in between?
You must stay outside the Schengen zone for 90 days before your 90-day visa-free reset.

Q2: Do I need ETIAS now to enter Europe?
Not yet. ETIAS will begin in 2026. Until then, the usual 90-day rule applies.

Q3: What if my passport expires in 2 months?
You won’t be allowed to enter. You need 3 months validity beyond your return date.

Q4: Can I apply for a Schengen visa from inside Europe?
No. You must return to your home country to apply for long-stay or national visas.

  • India Resumes Visas for Chinese Nationals After 5-Year Freeze – July 2025

    Published on: July 2025

Illustration showing India resuming visa services for Chinese nationals in July 2025, with visuals of an Indian immigration official and digital travel elements. The poster highlights the end of the 5-year freeze and reopening of tourist, business, and student visas, with Velynt Global’s contact details at the bottom

In a significant move, the Government of India has resumed issuing visas to Chinese nationals, lifting a freeze that had lasted since early 2020. The suspension, originally imposed amid COVID-19 and political tensions, had impacted bilateral travel, business, education, and tourism between the two nations.

As of July 25, 2025, visa applications from Chinese citizens are now being processed once again by Indian missions in China, including consulates in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai.

Here’s everything you need to know about the policy shift, and how it affects students, business travellers, and international relations.

Why Was the Visa Ban Imposed?

The freeze began in early 2020, driven by:

    • COVID-19 outbreak and travel restrictions
    • Geopolitical tensions, especially after border skirmishes in Galwan Valley
    • Diplomatic breakdowns and stalled talks between Beijing and New Delhi
    • Security concerns related to technology, surveillance, and student espionage

As a result, India halted all new tourist, student, business, and research visas for Chinese nationals, and suspended electronic visa processing as well.

What Triggered the Reopening in 2025?

Multiple factors contributed to India lifting the ban in mid-2025:

    1. Stabilizing Diplomatic Ties
      • Quiet diplomacy resumed post-2024 elections in both countries
      • High-level trade talks reopened earlier this year
    2. Pressure from Universities & Trade Bodies
      • Indian institutions and medical colleges pushed for student return
      • Export councils noted declining participation from Chinese buyers
    3. Reciprocity
      • China had already resumed visa issuance for Indians in late 2024
      • India needed to re-balance travel and tourism access
    4. Regional Tourism Push
      • India aims to boost inbound tourism in 2025–26
      • Visa facilitation was key to meeting Visit India Year goals

    What Visas Are Now Open?

Indian consulates in China are now accepting fresh applications for:

    • Tourist Visas (T)
    • Business Visas (B)
    • Student Visas (S/X)
    • Medical Visas
    • Research or Conference Visas
    • Employment Visas (E)

Visa-on-arrival for Chinese nationals is not active. All applicants must apply via the VFS system or Indian missions.

    Implications for Chinese Citizens

    • Students: Chinese nationals can now reapply to Indian universities or resume delayed academic programs
    • Business Travellers: Greater access to Indian export expos, supplier visits, and sourcing trips
    • Tourists: New leisure itineraries, including Buddhist circuit and northeast India routes, will benefit
    • Family Visits: OCI-linked Chinese residents can now host their families again without prolonged delays

    Regional Impact

    India’s reopening is expected to:

    • Improve people-to-people exchanges
    • Support South Asian tourism from Southeast Asia
    • Boost education exports to China (especially MBBS and tech)
    • Allow more direct flight connections between India and Tier-1 Chinese cities
    • Reopen academic partnerships and exchange programs

What This Means for India’s Foreign Policy

    • Marks a soft reboot in India–China visa diplomacy
    • Positions India as a stable regional partner open to tourism and education
    • Restores balance after years of COVID-related shutdowns and bilateral freezes
    • Signals pragmatism over hostility despite unresolved border issues
